Full day wedding photographer and Should You Have Morning Prep Captured on Your Wedding Day?

A question I get asked a lot as a wedding photographer is, Should I have morning prep captured? The simple answer to this is, YES!! Most couples I talk to are normally against this, due to them thinking that nothing really happens the morning of the wedding. But consider this. Think of your favourite movie, now picture watching that film for the first time and never seeing the start of it, but watching it halfway through the film. The chances are, you wouldn't have a clue what was going off and the chances are there were some key details at the start that sent the scene for the rest of the film right?

Now picture your wedding day, something you have spent months if not years planning and you get your wedding images back, but all the start of the day was missing. Something just wouldn't look right, would it? The truth is, you can plan for everything when it comes to your wedding, but there will always be something that wasn't planned for, and thats why it's important to have a photographer with you all day.

When planning your wedding, the excitement often builds as the ceremony and reception draw near. But one aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked is the morning prep. As a couple prepares to step into their new life together, having these moments captured can add depth and emotion to your wedding album. Here are several reasons why you should consider including morning prep photography in your wedding package.

1. Intimate Moments

The morning of your wedding is filled with tender moments—whether it’s sharing laughter with your bridesmaids, a heartfelt phone call with a parent, or a quiet moment of reflection. These candid shots can beautifully encapsulate the emotions leading up to “I do.”

2. Details Matter

From the intricate lace of your dress to the carefully chosen accessories, the morning prep is a chance to showcase the details that make your wedding unique. A skilled photographer will capture these elements in a way that highlights their beauty and significance.

3. Storytelling

Including morning prep shots creates a fuller narrative for your wedding day. It allows you to see the journey from preparation to the ceremony, capturing the excitement and anticipation that builds throughout the morning.

4. The Importance of Connection

For many couples, the morning prep is also about connecting with loved ones. Whether it’s the emotional moment of putting on your wedding attire or enjoying a toast with your closest friends, these moments of connection are priceless. A photographer can document these interactions, preserving memories that you’ll cherish forever.

5. First Look Reactions

If you choose to do a first look before the ceremony, having your morning prep captured adds context to those moments. The emotions, nerves, and excitement leading up to that reveal can be beautifully captured, making the first look even more special.

6. Documenting the Whole Day

Weddings are a whirlwind of events, and the morning prep is a crucial part of the day. By including it in your photography package, you ensure that every significant moment is documented, giving you a comprehensive view of your wedding day.

Tips for a Great Morning Prep Shoot

  • Choose a Comfortable Location: A space with good natural light will enhance your photos.

  • Keep It Organized: Make sure your dress, accessories, and any other details are ready for the photographer to capture.

  • Communicate with Your Photographer: Share any specific moments you want captured, from special gifts to intimate family moments.

  • Relax and Enjoy the Moment: This is your day! Embrace the excitement, and let your photographer work their magic.
